losing some objectivity
Have i caught a moment here or is the weird composition too much. I find that when it comes to kids i am losing some objectivity. I tend to slip into "yeah but there all cute" mode.
Any suggestions?

The pose is a little unconventional and maybe make the photo feel a little uncomfortable, but the shallow focus, sharp eyes and vibrant colours are all excellent. I'd be tempted to lighten the eyes a little.

For me the weird composition is too much. The hands are in mid-gesture.... and you cut them off.
The face is sharp, the expression is fun for a kid, the colours look fab...but you should have pulled back to include the hands imo. Or just zero in on that great face.
Hope that helps- Marko

I'm torn. As has already been said, the face and colors are great. It's that front arm that I can't quite decide about. Yes, it looms large and is kinda distracting. But I also like how it and the back arm kinda provide a frame for the face. And if the context is "kid being strange" the way kids often do, then it's perfect.

I downloaded the image and cropped in tight around his face and still his expression doesn't seem to work well. I think it's technically a good shot as you mention, well-exposed, sharp eyes, and all that but there's something just not right about it. That being said, I'd keep it...I have many such photos of my kids :)

The arms are a bit odd, but if you imagine he's doing the crane move from the original Karate Kid then it looks perfect :) Great dof and focus.

Thanks for the feedback, I have a couple that look a little more traditional but this one I found to be more interesting.
