Santa's Light
This was at a pre-parade party yesterday. They had a professional photographer shooting Santa with kids. I was thinking about the December assignment of lights and wanted to get the umbrella as my light.
What do you think?
To me, it is just missing what I was going for, it does not POP!!! There are too many things happening in the picture; the kids on the right, the brass coffee maker, the giant Santa outside.

hmmm - several things come to mind. I like the effect that you are trying for. I'll try my best at a few "layperson" comments:
- The expression from the boy on the right could be more engaging (ie: a more "interested" expression of some kind, not necessarily a big smile).
- The contrast between the blinds and outside light from the window is distracting.
- Santa could be brighter (post-processing) as he is one of the main subjects.
I'm interested in what others have to say, as I'm just learning the art of people photography myself.

I almost feel like cropping just to the right of the umbrella to get rid of the kid and the brass coffee maker. I actually darkened the window because it was pretty bright.
I didn't capture the shot I was looking for, but came close.
