It was one of those decisions ... zoom out to her and have the branches out of focus or go the way I did ... I took that option thinking it would be the better look.
I could sharpen here separately in PP but I think the water around her wouldn't look right then.

The branch is sharp, the rest of the photo is out of focus, the watermark is overbearing, I like the colour the photo is awash in. Just my :twocents:

You say the branch is sharp. The Rest of the photo is out of focus. This is fully intentional on my part. I think I took it the other way around also but liked this version better.
Are you saying TOO sharp because the rest is out of focus? Or saying that the out of focus area doesn't appeal to you in general?
The watermark looks like it is part of the image, thats the problem with it, I know it isn't but it is so overbearing. I think if the branch was not there it would be a really nice photo, it just doesn't feel like it belongs, it adds nothing but distraction.
I looked at the photo again, without the branch I think it would be a nice tranquil photo, the branch just has no reason to be in the photo, it adds distraction to what would be an almost mirage feel with that great gold wash look. At first glance it just distracted and turned me off the photo. Now looking at it again, I want to like it, just can't because that tack sharp branch makes no sense in what is a very serene image.
I don't get adding large watermarks to photos you want critiqued, and not just you but anyone who does it. I just can't ignore it, it is part of the photo because you chose to put it in, and not just in but an almost in your face and makes your photo appear to be a billboard and not a Photograph. If you really need to watermark, do what I do, I digitally watermark all my photos, the last photos I have posted I had small copyrights because my Digimark was acting funky, fixed now but I try at all cost now to avoid visual watermarks. They do not stop theft and they are not even a deterrent.
