Here is a picture I took today as the first snow fall of the season came to VA. Any advice would be appreciated.

I like it. The composition of the path in the image is perfect.
yes it definitely has a mood to it. I like the B&W.
My advice is be prepaired. When we get snow I make sure we have lots of Bailey's Irish Cream to put in the hot chocolat. We needed in Calgary this weekend.
I like this photo. Good composition, nice angle on the pathway.
I'm hoping we can help you by critiquing your photos but not this one. Good composition, good exposure, good post processing. I'd just be happy with it if I were you :D
I agree the composition is very good indeed. The leading line of the path and the person ... all very well used.
What I can't quite figure out is if this has been processed to be an image (no longer a pure photo due to processing filters etc) or it has been sharpened too much. I can see what appear to be sharpening artifacts in the branches and around the person.
I don't agree that the exposure was good though. It appears to be a bit overexposed I think.
My conclusion, from what I can see here, is that the photo wasn't quite what you'd hoped so you applied a filter/processing to save it and came up with a nice image.
Thanks for all the comments all, I appreciate it.
Mad Aussie, I struggled with the same thing before posting. Wondering if the image was "off" a bit. I was processing the photo to give a feeling and maybe I missed it a bit.
Here is another try.

I think that's a much nicer version penodr. This has better tonal range. The whites are a bit grey but then on a dark snowy day I reckon that's probably about right anyhow :)
I like the second as well.
I agree, the second is much better. more natural looking.
Good call. I like #2 much better too. Now that I have something to which to compare.
The first image is considerably more striking than the second image imo. but it does look oversharpened as MA pointed out.
2nd image is way too flat and grey for me but it looks more natural.
Perhaps a third version with more contrast than the 2nd shot and 'some' sharpening would be in order....
Hope that helps - Marko
For a comparison...1st...2nd...3rd try

Looks good. Your snow is white, and you have a softer, more natural effect overall. Gives one the feeling of the cold, wet, and desolation of the snowy path.
yes I agree with Raiven :)
An improvement each time for sure. :)
Thanks everyone for the comments and for helping me along the way. Snow is harder than I thought.

Nice image. Great comp and I love the leading lines. Well done and another vote for #2.
The first is a much crisper nicer looking shot, the second appears to be washed out and dull. I think the first has more pop and looks far better. Just my :twocents: as always.
Nice picture, I only think there is a bit too large radius on your unsharp mask.
I like the sharpness of the first and the more gray of the second! Maybe nice to see the subject a bit more down the path, but that is getting picky. But hey with such a nice shot, their is nothing else to suggest...;)
