Reflection shots are great. Trouble is, one does not quite know what to set the focus on when one makes shots like this. I personally prefer to have the subject as sharp as possible, and let the reflection be what it will turn out to be. IMHO your subjects are a bit soft, which takes away from the overall quality of the shots. I guess you were quite a bit away and these shots are major crops? Is there a way you can sharpen them up a bit, and maybe add a bit more contrast?
I always struggle with sharpness. I guess I'll try using a tripod. Seems with the shutterspeed I use I wouldn't have such problems. Thanks for the reply and I'll look at the original and see what I can do.
it may also depend on the post processing you do. What did you do with these?
If you wanted to post the EXIF we might be able to offer a little more insight to the softness. For instance, if you had a very long lens - 300mm then you need to be at a minimum of 1/300 if you are hand holding the camera. The EXIF would point these things out.
1/500 f13 iso 3200 200mm (300mm 35mm equiv). I think this should cover it. I need to check the iso setting, there was way too much sun to have an iso that high.
I use Picassa. Mostly just crop and adjust highlights. I can't tell that sharpening does much.
