Weddings are not something I ever do, even for family and friends..they make me too stressed. I worry that things will not be right and it isn't a "do over" sort of shoot.

The very hardest shoot I have ever done was for a very young pregnant teen who placed her daughter with an adoptive family at birth. It followed her pregnancy and included shots of the adoptive parents with the birth parents. The last shoot was a portrait session with the birth parents and baby, just prior to the adoption being finalized and the baby going to her new family. The photos are for the baby's life album, as well as a keepsake for the birth mother.

I like being a part of the happiness of weddings and childbirth (no 'action' shots though...no need to remember those). I've never been the primary photographer though...some day perhaps. I'd like to tag along as an assistant and take some courses first.

My wife had a miscarriage and we had a tough time with it. While doing some reading I came across a group called "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep" which seemed to connect with me in a different sort of way once I started to see the kinds of pictures are taken and what people had to say. "Healing photos" is the term I heard once...pictures that take us back to a specific memory so we don't ever forget. Has anyone on this forum ever volunteered for NILMDTS?
