I got it!!!!
Alright. I finally did it. We had some extra money saved and we (hubby and I) both agreed it was time.
With a lot of searching and discussing I chose a camera that would best suit my needs right now. I'm no professional national geographic photographer so don't need that high end one, but I want to still get a base I can grow with.
Soooo..I purchased the D300S today. Got a lens too but it's the 18-200 to replace the 18-135 that is slowly dying into despair. Time to start saving for lens now..
All I have to say is...what an expensive hobby that now has to start paying for itself (or so says my hubby) :)
Now to sit here and wait a week till I get the camera..lol.

Congrats on this purchase Kat! You will be happy when you get it  :highfive:

Waiting is the hardest part! :)

Congrats! Once you get over how much heavier it is then the D40, you will love, love, the camera!

Thanks! Yah.. I was worried about the bulkiness and weight..having some wrist issues but... right at the moment.. I dont care :P
-
And got the call..they found one for me as I guess with the volcano..I would of had to wait at least a month to get it.. so I have one coming to me in 15 mins!!!
now if only I could get some sun... lol

Sometimes it's easier to learn something if you see someone else do it. Here is a series of videos on YouTube on the various functions of the D300. Just skip his first three videos (About a bridge building game) The rest are all about the Nikon. The D300 and D300s are quite similar.

This one on auto bracketing for HDR is quite useful:
