Unlike the fanfare, formal balls, and parades of the Mardi Gras in New Orleans, the "Courir de Mardi Gras" is a 200 year old tradition in Mamou, LA. Early in the morning, (Very Drunk) riders in costumes set out on horseback, begging for ingredients to make a gumbo for the town Mardi Gras festival. I had never attended it until today. These guys were crazy.
