I just listened to the podcast on the Orton effect, and was inspired to try it out, It seemed to work quite well on this portrait of my daughter.

very nice, almost dream like, but to me the eyes are much sharper and the whites (of her eyes) are brighter in the original I'm wondering if those with more post experience will offer a few hints

I quite like the orton on this one Richard....it really softens her up and in a good way IMO. :) Takes away a lot of the harsh lighting on her face and hair. :thumbup:

Very cool use of Orton. Now, if you brought the two images together in GIMP / Photoshop and let her bright eyes from the original shine through to the Orton version it would look even better I think.

I quite like this effect here and wow what amazing eyes this little one has!
Iggy's suggestion is excellent here imo!

Hey guys thanks for all the input, I've combined the two images, I also removed the sticker from Em's top, and reduced the shadows under her nose.

I always worry when playing in 'the shop' that I go to far.

I like this treatment better (face is slightly bright though) - Nice!

Definitely like the second effort the best, but, as Marko pointed out, high points of features little too bright, IMO.
Definitely a cutie though.

My thought was along these lines as well.

I really think it looks good in Orton ... which surprises me but it looks great!

Were it me though ... I'd now try to blend the original eyes through and see if that looks better. Failing that I'd dodge (lighten) those eyes up a bit.

wow - what a difference, I am really impressed with that effect on your daughter's portrait.
That should be framed on the wall in your home.

Hey guys, thanks for all the comments :) , I have had a go at darkening the face, although I'm not sure if the global edit makes everything to dark? I wish now I hadn't flattered the image layers.

Those eyes look so much better now!! I think the darker face works well also. That's a printable image for sure!

I've dusted off the A3 printer, and now its printed, framed and on the wall. Id wouldn't of got the there with out all the suggestions so thanks everyone :clap:
