I like it! Definatley got that old feel to it! If you don't mind me asking, where did you take it? I think it would be a fantastic photo to go back to with summer ago!
Thx - Botanical gardens in Montreal last week.
OMG The two Ronnies!
Kat: The name of that show was "Are you being served". I used to watch all those old british sitcoms on PBS. They were great! Some Mothers do Have Em (Frank Spencer) and Benny Hill, Fawlty Towers, On the buses were other favourites of mine. Man that takes me back! Definitely nostalgic!
Bambi ... love that wall. So much character. I think that would provide a host of different photos.
Glad my 'Two Ronnies' shot stirred up some 'Nostalgic' memories for people :)
I loved the news segments they did ... "This week scientists have learned how to cross a Great Dane with a Bicycle Pump! Now they have a dog that really will 'put the wind up' the postman!" ;)
Allo Allo
Siejones: Thanks for the kind words! Glad you like it.
I can assure you that this is NOT scanned from film. I haven't used a film camera in over 10 years. It is in fact a digital photo from start to finish. The end result took me about 10 mins in Photoshop using toning resembling old news print, and Layers with Overlay as the blending mode and 40% opacity. The only thing I didn't do here was add a gradiant, but I did darken the edges of the photo to get that "old fashioned photo" look. For this particular shot, both the location and lighting are worth more than the processing. Oh yeah, and having a model helps! :-)
Hi Marko, I like the toning of your shot. The only thing that makes me scratch my head is that I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be looking at. Is it the pond? Is it the tree? Or is it the Gazebo which is hidden by the tree which sits between the pond in the foreground? Or is it the duck that was swimming in the pond that just flew away right before you pressed your shutter button? :-)
I guess my intention was that the whole scene was nostalgic and I was hoping that the gazeebo would be one of the key focal points since it and its reflection takes up a lot of space in the photo. Maybe I should have made it more pronounced? Thx - MarkoQuote:

ttv of an old house
Oh yeah I don't take anything away from the tehnical, lighting and good composition of the original. The shot was great as it was I am sure but the old film look suited it superbly and it's that look I find myself more and more attracted to these days. I am a mostly a landscape photographer and I would like to achieve this same look on a landscape image. I have seen it done before but rarely well. The ones that did work though were breathtaking.
Thanks for helping :)
No you didn't miss anything.
Maybe it is just me, but it seems that as the new months assignment comes along we forget about the last month. I thought it might be interesting to look at all the submissions at the end of the month in the context of the topic. Maybe the comments we make as each submission is are posted are sufficient?? Maybe a poll? :twocents: Of course this means more work for someone.
If you have photoshop, here's an easy way of achieveing the same kind of look you can easily do at home.
Find an old (preferably) brown paper shopping bag and photograph the surface of it with wrinkles and creases. (Make sure it is well lit) Then open the shot in Photoshop, resize and convert it to Black and White using the Desaturate option. Open your Landscape image, create a new Layer and then use this Paper Bag image as your overlay for your landscape image and set the Opacity to your preference, I use around 40%. You can use sepia toning for your landscape shot before doing the overlay. Merge the Layers. Next, you'll need to to Burn or Darken the edges of the photo by selecting the Burn tool and using a soft brush paint around the perimeter of the photo (Try to be consistent). And that's it! Good luck with it, I hope it works for you! :-)
My part of nostalgia, this reminds me when I was still a small girl always wanted to go on these merry-go-rounds

very cool shot Ray - I like!
jventer, I like this one too really cute! maybe a slight contrast boost would make it pop just a bit harder tho.
One of our functions tomorrow involves the use of a few props. This old desk was one of the items brought in.

Nice shot raiven - fits the theme beautifully!
Yup, great shot raiven! Definately fits this perfectly! :)
Been having loads of fun with some self portraits lately. I think these 2 fit the nostalgia theme and feel free to comment on any aspect. Many thx to my wife wife Carmy that actually took these under my guidance.
No comments? these are playful and not to be taken too seriously.
Plus I have some WAY crazier ones coming up.
Maybe the 60's were good to you
Thanks Kat - I've heard that "you look like a wrestler"one before. I'm either a mini hulkster or some wrestler named Goldstein. Thx - M
Marko, I was thinking your shots have "DISCO" written all over them! :-) Must be the chest hair.... :-D
Thanks Nomad - Then carmy and I were successful as that was EXACTLY what we were going for. I actually checked out vintage shops for a better disco shirt but i was too cheap to spend the fifty to sixty bucks for a shirt from 1979. (A mothball smelling, way overpriced, used disco shirt) :DQuote:

Ha! Ha! No white suit and John Travolta pose?
Do you have 'Value Village' there?
This parting of the ways looks already old. With a little bit of orton effect and and an higher saturation I tried to make it prettier:

Is that an original Macintosh keyboard? :-D
I finally found something for the nostalgia topic. Unfortunately I am out of town for work and only have a fairly average point and shoot with me.
