Nice set! , I really like the colours in these . My favorite one is is the 3rd one down :)
Thanks Donna. I liked the reflection of the tree in the water. I would have preferred to not have the bottom part cut off by the ice, however I was concerned about getting any closer to the water as I was out there all by myself.
Better safe than sorry! :) ... Yes the tree reflection in the water is beautiful with the layers of ice and snow and I really like the old buildings in the back ground :)
A very nice set indeed. #3 is my favourite as well. I wonder what it would have looked like if you panned a little to the right placing the tree a little off centre and showing a little more of those interesting buildings. I actually like having the reflection cut off by the ice as it adds an interesting foreground element.
Lastly, glad to hear that you are being safe while getting your images. We crazy photographers can put ourselves in crazy positions to get the shot but I always hope we're all being safe about it! :)
Thanks Iggy. Here's the same picture taken in landscape. Perhaps it is better this way. Also it is interesting that both you and Donna like the buildings in the background. I rermember that I didn't like the buildings there when I took the picture.
Ooops forgot the attachment. Here it is.
I like that one a lot more. Very nice. I agree that buildings are usually excluded in a landscape type shot but I think since they're all covered in snow they kinda look like a cozy little home tucked in the woods which kind of works. Without the snow they would probably be an ugly distraction.
With the larger image the river leads your eye through the picture to the "cozy chalet" and then the big tree and then out the left side. Nice!
Looks great in landscape! .. Really like the curve of the river .
Funny how we view buildings in landscapes sometimes ... There is a river that flows out of the lake , that I cross every time I go to town . I thought the cabins aong it were an eyesore .... Until one day my mom sent me a photo that she took of them with a nice reflection and a bright blue sky... I thought her photo was just beautiful ... Yeah , I still see them as an eyesore when I'm trying to keep them out of my Swan shots ... But I have since photographed them as old buildings in landscapes and liked them .... But it was my Mom that opened up my eyes so that I could see them in a different light .
Thanks Iggy and Donna. I guess that's all part of the learning process, knowing what you should include/not include in your pictures and when.
Really like that last landscape shot, (only minus the bright orange dot on right bank would be nice).
Good eye! I had to go back and look and it's in several of them.. maybe orange survey marker tape?
I like shot 3 in post 1 as my fave.
Thanks Marko. Shot 3 was my initial favourite, however I think that Donna, Iggy and HBG have convinced me that the landscape version (minus the orange survey tape) might be the better one.
Hopefully, this next comment doesn't sound condescending or anything like that as that is definitely NOT what I'm trying to say. Your comment just triggered me to jump on a soapbox for a second ;)
I've recently realized that my photography is just that, MY photography. Just because others like image A vs image B doesn't mean A is better. It only means they like it more than B. If we, as your peers, are doing "our job" right then we are helping you find your way down the path. Don't let our views become yours. And maybe that's all that's happened here is that you've decided you prefer A vs B as well.
Again, just felt like I wanted to point that out. I hope you don't feel like I'm picking on you or anything.
Cheers!
No probem, I understand you completely Iggy. I thought of exactly what you said, however I didn't change my my mind simply because you and the others thought it was the better one, but rather taking your comments and the others in mind I came to my own conclusion on slightly preferring the landscape version. This doesn't mean that I now dislike the portrait version but rather concluded that the landscape one might be slightly more suited for this picture.
ditto on the colours for me as well, very nice
Thanks HBG, Iggy (for you helpful comments), Marko and Ed.
