Standing Tall
A 900 year old cypress tree called " The Hollow Tree" remains standing proud and alive in the Okefenokee even though it's heart has been destroyed by lightning.

Not sure about the weird ghosting of the background trees, but I'm just going to go with them being the ghosts of it's ancient cousins that were logged out in the early 1900's.

Cool story to back up this shot. 900 years ... wow.

oops, I thought I had responded to this one- I love the reflection. what a tree.

That's a tree with lots of character. I think this gives us a lession in life, as you said "standing proud and alive"

Thanks y'all. It is probably what saved it's life actually since all the good wood was cut down. They estimate most of what was cut down was 2000 - 3000 year old trees. All to make siding and shingles out of. I can only imagine the difference the swamp would look like with those ancient giants still standing!

That is really neat. Most trees around here are only 50 yrs old, or less, as they are timbered quite frequently.
