Messing With The New Toy
Canon lenses have been on sale lately sooo....bought the 10-22! Went out this morning with it for the first time and ended up kinda shooting into the sun. Surprisingly there was no problem with flare....I expected some. Did not play around too much anyway due to -29 degrees. I posted a couple of 100% crops just for fun. I was looking to see what kind of detail was getting. I am thinking that a wide angle on a crop sensor leads to some loss of detail..yes/no?? I have another go in better light when it warms up. For reference there is a smoke stack on the right side I tried to keep in a similar position.

It does look like the 22mm is sharper than the 10mm

This is a hard test for a definitive conclusion.
When making any comparison, we need to remove as many variables as possible....In this case, it means shooting the identical scene twice and make the point of focus identical. shoot something plain like a newspaper and have the camera on a tripod and fire it with a self timer or cable release.
I'd like to see you shoot this again but vary only 1 detail, the focal length.
Hope that may help.

Thanks for the comments guys. After I posted the first set I realised its a bit hard to tell anything with a pic that is just snow and sky...d'oh! I had a few other shots from a better location with just the focal length varying and no change in focal point. There is much more in these pics to look at and judge. Processing was in Lr5. They were a bit dark due to the sun so processing is mainly up the exposure and lower the highlights to deal with the sun. A little fill light added. Profile correction seems to do nothing but remove the vignetting. I still need to get out without the sun up front though. Have to say though I'm liking the lens so far.

You will love this lens. I use it all the time and I now wonder how I got on without it.

Thanks RM. I've been wanting one of these for a bit now. Hope to get lots of use out of it....if it ever warms up!
