Steve - how can I ever put here one of my pictures, when there are all these awesome photos from you?!! They all are totally great. :highfive:. My favourite is the "The Cape Naturalist Lighthouse".:1st:
Oh oh. I'm sorry. Did I say a bad word?? lol. Sorry marko. I just couldn't help myself. It's like when I stub a toe..it just comes out!
:p
Thanks again Kat.
Yes I use auto bracketing. I start with Aperture Priority and if I'm using my tripod (which is often) I use the 2 sec timer. This way, the camera simply snaps off all 3 shots one after the other in rapid succession. I check the three shots and sometimes then take another shot or two manually if I think I need more.
Yes, with moving subjects I get ghosting. Water crashing over rocks etc tends to look crap after processing in photomatix. I ignore that and get the shot how I want it anyhow. Then I take the photo into photoshop and fix the ghosting, weird colours etc from there. Sometimes the halo effect from the HDR Merge is difficult to avoid which is a shame.
If I find all of the above doesn't work well ... I revert back to my old manual way of doing it by simply layering the shots in PS and blending them with masking. Takes longer but the result is more natural.
Marko ... of course ... no need to ask me :)
Moin Moin ... thank you Kerstin. You might like some of the shots I got on Day 5 .... an old clock tower might appeal. Might take me a day or two to get to those yet though.
Stunning shots MA ... thanks for the show and the tour! :highfive:
Reminds me alot of the west coast of Oregon in the USA....another beautiful place.
Again...stunning...simply stunning! :)
Thanks for all these fabulous shots MA. Now don't spend all your time on the computer! Go outside and play with your friends
cheers
Thanks Casil.
What friends EJC?? I don't have time for friends!! :)
DAY 5 - Albany - Denmark
Day 5 was a big one. We covered just over 800 kms (500 miles) and still managed to see some cool stuff.
We started out early ... about an hour or so before sunrise and watched as the sun threatened but seemed to fail in a glorious sunrise.
I said to Phil that the sunrises had failed to impress.
Not 5 mins later we rounded a corner and saw this ...
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...-1_MG_9584.jpg
I swear ... no processing on that shot. It's as is from the camera shot in RAW! So much colour. I couldn't believe it.
Then a truck passed and saw the reflection on the trailer ... so I waited for another ... and got this one ...
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...-2_MG_9603.jpg
was pretty happy with that.
Moving on we stopped at a little town for a coffee and while our host Phil went to buy the Latte's I found this this little building ...

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...-4_MG_9621.jpg
I love the Autumn colours. We very rarely see anything like this around Brisbane where I live. Deciduous (sp?) trees are just not common there.

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...-8_MG_9645.jpg
More shortly ...
After several hours driving we arrived in Albany down on the south coast.
Here's a clock tower we found in the centre of town ...
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...-5_MG_9665.jpg
After that it was up to the local lookout ...
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...15_MG_9677.jpg
After some food we drove to the coast itself ...
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...16_MG_9710.jpg
This area was just awesome. The power of the waves and colours in the water were astounding ...
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...17_MG_9740.jpg
This spot is called 'The Gap'
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...18_MG_9774.jpg
You can see by the size of the lookout how far down it was to the water
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...19_MG_9807.jpg
more soon ...
This is called Natural Bridge and in big seas (they get anything up to around 15 metres and more here) the water crashes right through the hole and into the cove formed by the rock at the bottom of frame. I guess it's about 15 metres across the bridge.
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...21_MG_9831.jpg
From there moved on until we came to a spot called Greens Pool.
Here we discovered some of the best beach and scenery I've seen in my life.
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...22_MG_9862.jpg
We walked down to the beach at Greens Pool and found this beautiful little beach
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...23_MG_9889.jpg
We then walked around the big, sandstone rock cliff and this scene presented itself
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...24_MG_9907.jpg
Still buzzing from that we walked on and over a large rock. A steep staircase led down between two large boulders. I walked over the rock instead and found this ... Elephant Cove.
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...25_MG_9949.jpg
Still on that rock I turned to my left. That's Phil standing down there on the beach by a lump of kemp and seaweed
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...26_MG_9952.jpg
more shortly ...
I went down the stairs and had to wait for the water to recede and then run between the rocks to get onto the beach. That big boulder there to the right is what I was standing on
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...27_MG_9976.jpg
Here's the lump of weed and kelp that Phil was standing by

Looking out into the cove from a different angle
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...29_MG_9997.jpg
Walking a bit further around the rocks away from Elephant Cove the pounding surf kept me amused for awhile longer

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...40_MG_0049.jpg
Finally, as we were about 3/4's of our way home (we'd done about 700 kms by now) we were lucky enough to finish the day the way we started it ... with a glorious display of light and colour from the sun and clouds. We were in dense forest when the sunset started so only caught the final moments. But any moment that looks like this is something to be thankful for in my opinion.

And so ends Day 5.
Day 6 was another in Bunbury. No photos from Day 6 as Phil had developed a respiratory infection and I spent much of the day driving him to the doctors etc. Leanne and I spent the day looking after him for once.
Day 7 was intended to be another big one but Phil had blood test in the morning and needed more time to recover. In the afternoon we went for a drive nearby to the Bunbury region. We found went for a walk in a forest and also found some more autumn colours, and also a little place called 'Gnomesville' that you won't believe!!
Such beautiful imagery MA.
I especially love this one
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...29_MG_9997.jpg
More fantastic shots! Whoop whoop! Makes me want to get going on a trip..ha ha!
Thanks MA. I've never used the AB before and was wondering how it worked. Been reading on the layering and masking but I'm still a bit confused on that. Maybe with some more reading and trying it out :)
Hope your friend is feeling better!
Thanks marko and Kat.
It sure was a beautiful place to visit. And having scenery like that makes it easier to produce nicer photos for certain.
It was a big week. And no rest for the wicked either as this weekend coming I have a 5 hour drive north ahead of me, an over night stay Saturday, in order to shoot another mountain event on Sunday. That means days processing when we get back as well. Lots of traveling lately.
Phil was feeling better within a day or so Kat.
Nice Job MA. Its been extremely busy at work the past few weeks so Ive had very little time to check the forum out. What you have done here is great. These images are spectacular and Im glad you shared them with us. Keep up the great work.
DAY 7 - Ferguson Valley
As I said earlier ... there was no Day 6 photographically due to Phil being ill and on Day 7 he was still recovering somewhat.
This day would be an easy one so we were in wind down mode before heading home to Qld now.
We started with a quick walk through a local forest area. Not sure if any of these photos are of interest but here's a few anyhow ...

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...-2_MG_0094.jpg
On our way to the next stop we saw this tree .... another autumn tree :)

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...-4_MG_0122.jpg
more shortly ...
Our next stop was Gnomesville. I thought we were going to some property but the reality is this was just a spot of council land at an intersection miles from nowhere at all! Seems many years ago, somebody decided to leave a few gnomes here. And then someone else saw them and added some. The numbers grew. Now, there's hundreds of the things ... maybe thousands. People put them there with little messages and sometimes build little props etc as you'll see below. It's so popular that this shot on the highway (it's not even that ... it's a back road) is now featured on tourist brochures and the council has built paths and steps to make it easier to walk around and admire the gnomes.

Check it out .... I even found some Canadian ones :)

After Gnomesville we went up to a local dam which was completely uninspiring BUT, I found more autumn trees :) :) :)

That wraps up Day 7.
Day 8 sees us travel back to the city of Perth and spend an hour in a beautiful park over looking the city center before flying home again. Loved this park. Hopefully when I process some of those photos you'll see why. Here's a quick sample ...

More nice shots, Cool find with the Gnomes.
Yup the Canadian Gnome shot is my fave but i may be a bit biased. ;)
DAY 8 - Last Day - Perth and Flight Home
Day 8 dawned and we hit the road fairly early and headed north for Perth.
Arriving early we headed for Kings Park which a large parkland that rests on a plateau above the city.
A view from Kings Park over the city

You saw this one yesterday as a sample

I was intrigued by the shadows. Would have liked more time to photograph them

Then it off to the airport. We boarded the plane and were informed, after a delay, that a passenger had arrived on another flight, collected his baggage and checked it onto our flight. The baggage was all loaded but there was no sign of the passenger. Minutes went by while they tried to locate this guy. No luck, the baggage had to come off for obvious security reasons. Took a long time to find his bags. It was 50 minutes later before we finally took off.
The flight home was a bit boring due to lots of cloud. Here's a few shots but most of the journey was with a totally white view.

http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...20_MG_0556.jpg
And that ended our holiday. We wished we had more time and could have stayed longer. It's a holiday we'll remember.
I've spent every free moment after work this week processing these hoping they would be of interest to someone out there.
So a big thanks to all who have taken the time to look at my photos and made the effort to let me know you enjoyed at least some of them.
We all need to know we doing ok sometimes and I appreciate the comments very much indeed.
So many great shots, Aussie! Loved the gnomes! A couple of favs:

Thanks raiven :)
Wow..I'd say one successful trip!
For those who followed this thread ... I found this shot today of an 11 meter wave being ridden by a surfer who lives up the coast from me.
This photo was taken in the same area that I took the photos on page 3 of the Canal Rocks shots.
Shame we didn't see any surf like that while we were there.

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,26162259-2,00.html
I am speechless.
and that is no mean feat.
It's a LOT of water to play with isn't it?
Apparently this area is one of the worlds best kept surfing secrets. The lighthouse keeper was telling me all about it when we were there. Waves like that rival Waimea Bay.
MA - that's a really scary wave! I prefer the sand area at the beach at our less dangerous Baltic Sea ;-).
Very cool shot!
Oh ... speechless over me holiday shots :goodvibes Well tick one up for the 'Madster' ... he managed to stop Bambi talking ;)
I watched a TV show yesterday on surfing big waves in South Australia. They took 8 top surfing juniors and put them in 6m surf! These guys were about 16 - 18yrs old I think.
Amazing stuff! You can't paddle into these waves ... they are too fast ... and start to break about 2km out so the boys had to be towed in by Jetski while standing on their boards.
last time that happened was well....according the hubby it never has :D
but I think that there was this one time in the 90's.....
I can't imagine looking at those waves and thinking 'ooh that'll be fun'.
and your vacation trips are awesome. I have to get to Austrailia some time
cheers DJ
