I went out to take some pictures of snowy owls the other day. I found a few but they just sat there and didn't fly around.

Luckily there were some short eared owls flying around. I'm not a birder so I was happy that there were people there that knew what these were. I spent a couple of hours following them around with my lens. Also I should point out that I was using a new camera. It's a Nikon D800 and has 36MP. That helped as I ended up cropping many of these more than I normally would. It was a good day and I ended up with almost 80 "keepers``.
This first image was one of my last. On the way back to the car this guy landed on a post not far from the path. It was making a sound a lot like a cat here.
