Divers at Prequile

This is a discussion on Divers at Prequile within the Animals (mammals, birds, insects etc.) forums, part of the Show your photo (Color) - Landscape & Nature (flowers, mountains, storms etc.) category; I spent the other day at Presquile Provincial Park photographing ducks. What a contrast in temps compared to last year ...

    Default Divers at Prequile

I spent the other day at Presquile Provincial Park photographing ducks. What a contrast in temps compared to last year when it was +20c. The daytime high was -3c with winds at 35km/h and gusting to 55km/h.
As well, this weekend is the annual Waterfowl Festival at Presquile and there is quite a few duck there although I would suspect that there will be more in a couple weeks. I had hoped to get some decnt Redhead and Canvasback pics but the weather and Lake conditions didn't make that accessible.

However the usual suspects did show up.

Just curious do you use continuous autofocus?

Thanks Marko! For this kind of stuff I always use Continuous (Canons AI Servo). The Canon 7D has a number of AF settings that I have been playing with trying to get more consistent results.

Thanks everyone for your comments they are much appreciated. I wasn't originally going to process this images because I was disppointed that I had cut off his back end. However after looking at the image again, there were a few things that I did like about it so I decided to put the effort into processing and posting it. Hope you like it.

Oh hell yeh ... I can see why you wanted to use this last one. Were it me ... I'd crop it in closer so the bit that's missing doesn't look like an accident.
