Saturday evening

This is a discussion on Saturday evening within the Animals (mammals, birds, insects etc.) forums, part of the Show your photo (Color) - Landscape & Nature (flowers, mountains, storms etc.) category; Where did that day go? I'm wondering how one gets involved in a conversation here. Does one butt in, stand ...

    Default Saturday evening

    Where did that day go?
I'm wondering how one gets involved in a conversation here. Does one butt in, stand back and wait or quietly make an offering in the hope that someone will notice.
I'm not used to 'show and tell' so,I'll start with something simple.
Flowers are what I do when I need therapy. From what? I hear you ask. Everything!
I would prefer to spend an hour or two talking to a flower with my camera than most people I meet.

    Hi Tom,

We have off topic forums for any conversations and the general photography category could be used for on topic conversations.
Just step right into any thread Tom... Collectively we have loads of experience on many photography topics and there are plenty of bright people on this board that can stimulate you....and hopefully you can do the same for us

I like this image very much, especially the second flower head on the table itself. Aside from that detail, this image instantly reminds me (because it's a favorite image of mine) of a famous BW image called Melancholic Tulip by the great master, Kertesz.

Firstly, welcome to the boards Tom. Hope you stay awhile and join in on the threads/convo's here.

Really likin' this Lily shot. Looks like a going, going, gone type to me. The black background really makes this one for me also.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

Not such a good nights sleep. Tossing and turning, wondering what is in stall for me today.
I'm not used to people 'liking' my pictures. I tell my students to keep there 'likes' to themselves, as they would with their prejudices and dirty secrets.
"We are not here to feed our egos" I would yell.
Still, having my ego tickles on a Sunday morning seems a perfectly acceptable thing to have done.
    Cheers.
Ahh, Kertesz. Now there's a man with a sense of humour. His photos often contain irony and a curiosity for the human character. Like all the 'great' photographs, we can look over and over again and see something new each time. Not because the picture changes but because we do and in the new light of day, the picture means something new and vital to us.
I have my parents to thank and myself to blame for what I have become.

Nicely set up still life. I like the contrast and black background as HBG said. It almost seems that the limp flower is mourning its fallen comrade (just before joining it), while the next generation is standing strong.
I welcome all critique and comments on any of my photos

I also am enjoying this image as it gives me that impression of life. Young, old, and passed on.

You should get a life, Michael. Now go stare at your partner or kids. I don't spend that much time staring at porn on the internet.
I am appreciative of knowing that someone here has a first name. I was getting concerned I had fallen into a pit of spies.
I do encourage people to be thoughtful when viewing photos, even there own. We can all talk about dof and lighting and gear and our likes and dislikes but few of us will spend the time to find out just how the image affects us.
    Maybe we aren't sensitive enough.
Thank you for your interest. Feel free to talk to me about what your thoughts revolved around.
I have my parents to thank and myself to blame for what I have become.
