He was right in the middle of a good preening, I saw the Eagle coming up behind him long before he did. This shot is actually the Heron deciding If it was wise to hold onto his treetop or split...He chose the latter :)

Great set of photos, Michael. Birds are such great posers, they always look graceful even with a messy beak! :)

The eagle was way out of range for my lens but after he missed the Heron, he tried for a gull then tried for something invisible on the thin ice :) Following this the gulls all grouped together and chased the Eagle off
