The view from my "office window"

Okay, strictly speaking it's neither the view from my office, nor the view out a window (mainly because my office doesn't actually have a window), but it was the view from the pilotage of HMCS Protecteur yesterday morning. Not exactly competition-quality images, but I thought perhaps of interest to some.



A fairly calm day...



Doing what we do best... playing Quicke-Mart. The PNS Tariq (Pakistani Naval Ship) along side for a 100 or so cubic metres of fuel.

I really like the unique point of view and the perspective. I should point out that bending the horizon back into line is possible in postprocessing.

Thought about it and disgarded the idea; I like the spherical appearance of this particular shot; rather like we're perched on a globe.

Good question... I'm not on the cargo side, so I don't have any idea on the dollar figure. Our total liquid cargo capcity is around 30,000 CUMs including distillate and aviation fuel. I'll guess a whole heckuva lot!

hahah... perched on a globe.... that's a good way of looking at it....

is that fish eye distortion or the Sigma 10-20? I hear that lens has pretty bad distortion at 10mm

More like perched on one very big bomb if that aviation fuel ever caught fire.

I like these shots. Very nice control on the sky and i also like the rounded horizon - wouldn't touch it.

really interesting! its nice to see some 'different' shots - mine are so much about my surroundings and the largest boat i see on water is a canoe...

i like the rounded sea as well - it made me think of the earths shape (before it was mentioned), and when youre on a boat, im thinking flat seems boring.

i also like the water around the boat on the 1st shot - looks like good action!
