Interesting thought. What is the purpose of the flap at the top of the teepee?

Smoke flaps as they would have a fire inside. Interesting bit of trivia- the doorway would be positioned east or southeast for religious reasons but it served them well as the prevailing winds would help clear the smoke from the teepees (or tipi). I imagine it would let some light inside as well.

Ok. I thought the usual hole at the top was enough for the smoke but perhaps this is the evolution of their technology Bigger fire so they need a bigger hole!
