    Default Gloucester Docks

Now it's not that I don't want C&C, but just felt like showing some shots I got last night. on my first real trip out to town for night photography. I also Used my Canon Ixus 70 Compact, cause I was scared about having my DSLR nicked lol. Might get enough courage up to take the real thing next time heh.

Thanks for the comments pips, I've got some great pics there that I need to do a bit of tidying up on heh, I was up till 2.30 this morning playing with them in photoshop and couldn't quite see lol, but wanted to get them "ready to post" lol.
Love the swan one though too, need to sort that out a bit more too.
may post that one to the C&C once I've had a decent play with it

I still have a load more pics that I need to go through, this was my highest ever Keepers ratio on a shoot lol. it was really tough picking out those ones.

Heh, like they always say, "it's the photographer, not the camera" lol.

I have improved on my compact at the same time as improving on my DSLR. generally I have to think of workarounds when using the compact. or I have to limit what I can do based on what I can do with the camera. you work with the tools you have to hand heh.

I've seen fantastic photography done with basic disposable cameras, (not managed that myself yet though lol) but a some people understand the limitations of these cameras, and adjust to work with what they have.

My son has a basic compact and manages to get some great shots, but he has the advantage of being 8, and not know what the "imposed limitations" are. maybe that's the key. think like an 8 year old lol. I do half the time, but can get me in trouble lol.

I have not commented on any of the photos here as I do not feel that I am qualified to but I do want to comment on the B&W here simply for the fact the image is so compelling. It has an extreme quietness to it, the calm water, the still swan, yet a very real foreboding. The glaring lighting, the repetition of the windows drawing your eye along the buildings which in themselves is another repetition. All seems serene, yet something- something is nagging at you that it could all change in just a blink. Nice shot. The one below it is very pretty and I like it a lot but does not have the slight edge to it the back and white has that makes one want to keep going back to look again. Thanks for showing us these.
