    Default "51 Studebaker Commander

I’d seen it several times from the interstate, but wasn’t able to locate it by driving the backroads in the area I thought it should be in. I went out looking for it last Friday and managed to get turned around and a little lost. Next thing I know I looked up and saw it sitting there. Resting by an old ramshackle barn at the end of a private air strip was the old “Stude”.

I saw a house through some woods and figured they either owned it or knew who did. I drove on over to ask permission which was gladly given after having to listen to its history and how it came to sit there.

    I’ll start with this one.

So this is going to be an expose' of the old Studebaker? I hope so.

I assume that you will also bleed a little of the history of the car as you post the shots?

The name of the Studie’s owner is Ed, and he tells me that his pop bought the old thing somewhere back in the early to mid ‘60’s. He remembered that they had heard about it from a relative living in the upstate which meant that it was a little bit of a drive to get there. Having paid $400 for it, which was a tidy little sum in those days, they began preparations to tow it home as it supposedly needed a bit of minor engine work before it could be driven.

It was my way of telling Barefoot I like the photos and I'm still watching with interest.
