    Lightbulb Sigma 17-50 OS Question

    Hi there,

My first post here. I am looking at getting a 17-50 for my Nikon D3100 and have read countless reviews online and tested out at local camera shop. the Tamron , Sigma , and nikon 17-55 . Love the nikon and in my dreams that is the lens for me. But cost is a reality and so I am leaning towards the Sigma. Looking at B&H and Adorama in the US the lens is almost 200.00 cheaper than the same sigma up here in Canada. 569.00 at B&H vs - 799.00 at Lens and Shutter in vancouver. .

My question is why is there such a huge variance in pricing?? being that our dollar is about par (give or take), is it the same lens in canada and the US?? i would love to buy it at home in canada but for 800 bucks i can save 100 more dollars and get the nikon 17-55 used. . .

Is there something im missing here ??

    Thanks for your help

    Rick

No idea why that is .. here is a link that features price comparison in Canada ... and I would watch eBay ... sometimes you can get a great deal there ... The Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II VC LD lens is actually very good, a slight bit better than the Sigma. You can read up on this @ slrgear.com .... pretty helpful site.

    Hey Matt,

Thanks for the suggestion about eBay - i hadn't thought of that. ive been checking craigslist locally and nothing around that wasnt more money used than for a new one in the US. I ended up getting a mint as new one on eBay for 360.00, so I am rather happy for your help

I purchased the sigma for my d5000. I love it. It functions very well in low light and is fast. The focus can sometimes hunt a bit which is frustrating but that's probably me screwing it up. For 200 you get far more than you pay for it. Almost all o fmy images are taken with it.
