Default New Canon 70-200 IS & 2X Extender Ordered!!!

I took advantage of the Canon Rebate Offer today and placed an order with B&H for the 70-200 IS & 2X Extender II ....
I debated on the Extender for a while due to reading a few conflicting reports about image quality with this lens but went for it anyways....
I figured if I ever graduated to one of the longer super telephoto's it would defiantly be a nice addition...
P.S.- I just received my UPS tracking number and will have it in my hands tomorrow!!!.......
Any/all comments about this combo would be welcomed/appreciated...

Congrats, I know you will be happy with the lens.
I have the 70-200 f/2.8L (Non IS). It is a great lens and my fav because of 2.8, but often not wide enough.

I'll be interested to see how you go with the extender too. I've been debating the 1.4 v 2.0 extender for the same reasons. I think you will get away with the 2.0 with a f/2.8 lens. I would also like a macro extension, because I like this lens for "macro" type shots, but focal length is usually an issue.

I hope you have been working out because it is not a light lens.

Congrats; I can't comment on Canon gear, but I do get a LOT of use out of my Nikon 70-200 & 1.4TC. I went for the 1.4 vice the 2 because Nikon's 2 isn't overly well reviewed for IQ and I felt that a 5.6 maximum aperture was getting a bit dim for my tastes. Looking forward to seeing some results from the combo!

JEALOUS!! Nice grab. Only been shooting with my Rebel XSi for a few weeks but I'm lovin' it and would love to have those!

Not sure but you may find the autofocus won't work on the lens with the 2x extender attached.

Just curious ... you've got a 70-200 and are making it 140 - 400 with the 2x ... I'm guessing the f2.8 was an important consideration? If not, then a 100-400 L would have been cheaper than that combo and with a wider range. If I'm right about the auto-focus then that's an advantage also in the 100-400.

Big difference between f2.8 and f4.5 though so I'd understand your thinking anyhow. AND, if you have other lenses that will benefit from the 2x then that adds weight to your decision too of course.

    I've played with AntZ's 70-200 f2.8 and it's a beaut. Such a handy lens too.

Yes, all of the functions still work, including auto focus, with the 2X Extender...I just felt the 70-200 would be a more useful range for me at the present time and wanted the extra reach for occasional use..
I would love to get into wildlife photography in the future and will probably be looking at purchasing one of Canon's longer telephoto's to also use with the extender.
This darn 70-200 IS 2.8 is built like a tank and a little on the heavy side, but lovin’ it so far….
