Default Canon 5D Mark 2_The Truth.....

I am looking at getting a better camera (I have a Rebel XTi) and have already invested money into Canon glass. I am only interested in shooting portrait and landscape. But it is alot of money (2400 USD at B&H) and I want to be sure. I am not sold on the 7D as the reviews have been less then what I expected. I do have to say that the full size sensor in the 5D and 21MP is a plus.

    I really value your input.

    Thanks
    J

Maybe try renting the 5D II for a weekend and take it for a test drive? Some places will let you apply the rental fee towards your purchase if you buy it.

At what point do you feel you've outgrown you rebel (is that a 400D? 450D?)? It's very tempting to upgrade to a more expensive camera. But it's a waste of money if you haven't used your current camera to the fullest. And to give advice on what camera to buy, we need to know in which area's you'll expect improvement from your gear...

My main gripe about the 5dmark2 is its very mediocre autofocus for the price.

I think it is the 400 but i am not 100% sure. I have to replace it as the processor it starting to go. there is a lag between pictures and I have replaced my cards as well as formatted them. I took it in and this is what I was told. This is a very basic DSLR and a great starter camera for me.

Oh, if it's on it's way out, you're right to replace it. Making this a nice opportunity to upgrade. Considering your plans to shoot mostly landscapes and portraits, I'd say the 5D is a great choice.

mediocre how Marko? Slow? Inaccurate? Is this the case with all the lenses you use on it?

Marko as a pro or anyone else, what would you say is the best bang for the buck when it comes to the Canon line-up? I am in no great rush to drop 2800 dollars as this is alot of money. But I would like to have a solid camera for the next 4-7 years that I can grow into.

Right now I don't think Canon really have anything impressive other the than 5D Mkll ... or maybe the 7D, which, as you said, seems to be falling a bit short on expectations.
Nikon has made a leap forward in terms of low light performance that Canon does not offer yet in the cheaper end of their better cameras. I'm sure they will soon.
Therefore, I'd be tempted to look for a cheap 2nd hand 40D or 50D to satisfy your need for now.
