This was once a palace!

Hi all,
I have been hibernating for some time now. It's time to be alive once again. I received my new 50D with 28-135 lens just last week and I am pretty excited about it.

Okay back to the point. This a picture of a 127 years old palace. The king who used to live in it, introduced eucalypitus tree from Australia. Hence the composition.

In addition, I tried also psudo-HDR with photomatix and tone mapped it.
It still seems to have some grains though.

This looks like a lovely shot with nice exposure and colour!

I'd love to see it larger. The right side is making me think of a Gauguin painting, has a somewhat Polynesian feel to my eye.

I wonder why the King wanted the Eucalyptus tree introduced?

I will try to revisit the place and shoot from other vantage point where it will make it look like a palace. In the land of huts at the time I am sure it looked like a palace back then. After that, he has built a real palace which is still being used as one.

Well, at the time, he was building the current capital and there was a shortage of firewood. Therefore, in order to avoid the massive deforestation, he was looking for species that will grow fast and Eucalyptus served the purpose. I am sure there has not been any environmental consideration.

Well ... the Eucalypts (known as 'Gumtrees' colloquially) sure burn well!

The framing may be a bit tight even for my liking. The edge of the tree is cropped on the left.

I'd be curious if, when you revisit, you could shoot wider so that we get a better idea of the surroundings.
