This shot was taken with my long lens at 200 mm. I'm interested in critique about the composition and exposure. I had a hard time figuring out how to crop and decided to leave a fairly wide angle. Comments much appreciated. Mike

The exposure looks decent to me.
The composition imo, does not work simply because the horse (the main subject to me) is too far away from the camera. If the horse were in the foreground, it would be a wonderful composition.....but he's stealing attention away from the overall composition by being so far away.

Marko has assessed it well, however, with this crop it might suggest a feeling of loneliness which may make up for the distance.



I know your profile says "Please ask before editing" but I kinda thought you were openly giving permission since you are asking for crop suggestions and you provided the original. I hope that's alright.

Thanks for your responses and thoughtful comments. Of course it was okay to edit to show me what you were thinking. I agree that the horse is too small for the composition and needs to be brought closer to the viewer's attention. I also feel that between the fence, the roof and building, the fence is the most important. It looks like I can keep one of the three, but not two and definitely not three. Thanks for helping me think it through and your further thoughts would be welcome. How about this crop:
