I had to work on this pretty hard to make it in to anything at all. I'm not sure if it was worth the effort.

To complete the story, I have attached what I started with. The composition was pretty much what I had in mind, but the tones etc ended up pretty uninspiring. So any thoughts on what I could have done at capture to achieve something better. Likewise for post.

    Nice shot and post-processing!!
I think it was totally worth the effort and imo your instinct was bang on. The composition is good but the tones were boring so you worked them. For me the sky and mountain are a bit too blue/green for my taste, but that does not make the choice 'wrong' in any way.
    Hope that helps - Marko

totally agree. your new rendition of this image is much better than the original. Not completely sure about the blue-green tinge to the picture, but its still much better than the original. Maybe try working the color balance a little more, that might help it out. Other than that I can't say much about it. Great composition, and great PP. Well done.

Photography is more than just taking a picture and freezing the action, or leaving the shutter open. It is more than orchestrating the image with the stroke of a brush. Its the realization and explanation that reality is an isolated experience in which only a specific individual can comprehend during any given time period. - Your Truly!
