First off.. I can't see why not.

This is soo a Halifax scene! The buildings! Is this downtown near the casino? Ha ha..I remember going to some "70's" club and it turned out to be a gay bar...all men beside my friend and I.

Getting back on topic..the only thing I would of not included would be the cement post in the bottom.

    I love Halifax!

This is the Parade Square not too far from the casino. I've never been to that bar. (not that there is anything wrong with that)

Interesting. I included it on purpose because I kinda thought it was a repeating shape that kinda mirrored the town clock and led your eye up the hill toward it. Guess it didn't work as well as I'd hoped.

First of all it's good to be picky . It definitely could go in though. I would edit out the post too. When you explained it, it made sense but I don't think that there's enough of it to have the echo effect you want.

If you want me to be very very honest, I think that you could take a much better photo. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice photo but I think that you could do a 'wow' photo

Unfortunately I have to agree with Bambi here Iggy - It's an okay shot, not a wow shot. The individual elements that make up the photo aren't working together for me if that makes any sense. Also it could use a medium sized contrast boost imo. Hope that helps - Marko

Where does the sun set/rise in relation to this photo?

I think it would be neat to have it right at the tip of the hill. Have those lovely golden tones shine up the windows.

I see what you were doing with the post..but for me it doesn't look good. Maybe if you were back a couple of feet and had the post with some of the grass taking up the lower 1/3 of the photo.

And if you got time..I'd like to see a photo from up top looking down on to the water

Personally, I would like to see the city hall (I think it is) pulled larger into the frame. I don't think in this case the plaza is doing you any favours. I agree with Marko about the contrast boost as well, on my screen the photo overall is quite dull.

Im going to agree with Marko. It is an okay shot, but does not have that WOW factor needed to grab any attention for a photo contest. If I had anything to say about the image, its that it is not bright enough. Maybe it is just me, but it seems just a little dark and I find myself wanting the sun in a different position. Either directly behind you, or directly in front of you.

This does seem like it would make a great opportunity for an HDR shot.

Photography is more than just taking a picture and freezing the action, or leaving the shutter open. It is more than orchestrating the image with the stroke of a brush. Its the realization and explanation that reality is an isolated experience in which only a specific individual can comprehend during any given time period. - Your Truly!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I knew it wasn't what I'd hoped for which is why it's in this thread and not the other I really struggle with city/architecture and feel much more at home with organic subjects.

Bambi, I think you may be overestimating my abilities but I appreciate the vote of confidence!

The sun sets to the right and and behind the clock tower so maybe that time of day is better. This was early morning with the sun in front of and to the left of the clock tower. I'll try again in the evening.

The contrast issue is probably my lack of experience doing post processing -- I probably screwed it up.

And just to be informative, as for City Hall goes, it's not in the photo. The green building to the left is the Five Fisherman restaurant and the brick one to the right is the World Trade and Convention Centre. City Hall is an old building and is directly to the photo's right hand side at the other end of the Parade Square. It looks like this:
