    Default Blend modes

Could someone please give me a bit of highlights on blend modes? Which one do you use for curves and levels? I almost always keep that in NORMAL. I changed it yesterday to LUMINOSITY while working on curves and it seems to avoid the oversaturation I usually face when processing my pictures.
    Thanks

I don't believe I've ever seen "blend modes" on the software tools I use to process images. Which package are you using?

May be I missed the right term, Iggy.
If you open new layer in CS, you find a new layer window which at the bottom has a combo box labelled Mode. I am referring to that. Of course, you can find it through other ways too.
I am using CS and you can find it in any version.
I hope I am not confusing...

Sorry, still just a little confused. CS = ??

I use Picasa for image management, ufRAW for RAW conversion and Gimp for image editing.

Iggy, CS = photoshop. We are now on photoshop version CS5.

Hi Yisehaq - this topic is WAY big. whole books and courses are devoted to blend modes.
In a nutshell though blend modes control the way LAYERS blend into one another.
here'as a quick tutorial that I found just by googling blend modes. It's for an old version of photoshop but the principles are the same. Using Blend Modes in Photoshop-- Part I
    Hope it helps - Marko

Cool. I'll have to check it out myself. Gimp has all those blend modes too.
