So today I got curious about film log curve and I found out that films have something called a characteristic curve (I've just started with photography so this is probably a 'duh' moment for you) that reports the response of the three separate channels RGB. I tried to apply them to a digital photo with curves and lots of eyeing was involved, but I got a result that resembled Ektachrome (the film of which I found the curve).

So then I found the curve for Kodachrome, because I really wanted to understand if it was possible, without having to analyse colours from a photo, to simulate the colours of different films just by looking at their characteristic curve. I was less lucky with Kodachrome, as the curve I found on the technical data paper didn't make sense applied to a colour grading curve. Other films I found (Velvia is one) looked like were something that made more sense, while others (Portra) were even worse than Kodachrome.
