April 2010 - Photography assignment - Different point of view

Okay guys, April is just around the corner and we need a new theme.

I have a couple ideas:
1. changes-
2. vintage
3. still life

what other ideas do you have? I'm sure that there are much better ideas out there!

Oh yeah I forgot....
Hmmm.... Okay I had an idea earlier in the month for this next month....
What about changing positions....one shot taken in a standing position and the exact same shot in a different position...be it higher or lower or sideways...whatever.
That way it will force us to look at the same scene differently and see what neat angles and POV we can come up with!
I think it could be interesting.
I would call it "The same yet different"
Other ideas are
juxtapositions
minimalism
opposites
Personally I'm keen on the same yet different idea.

I have several spots I shoot regularly, and I imagine others do, as well. Would something like "then and now" be practical? I also like Casil's "same yet different" idea.

patterns in nature
clothing
water
weather
keep it simple (one subject, simple black/white background)

I like the "then and now" but my now next month won't be the same as the then. But I could enter older shots :P

ooh I like this idea....

For same but different, which I like, you would need to include two images or edit them together somehow. So, not sure if this will work. Water's been done and Spring is obvious so somewhat boring.

Opposites sounds challenging and interesting.

Yellow is very broad so that would be easy for everyone regardless of style.

I was thinking you could just include 2 separate images...one version and the same yet different version...not meld them together.

Actually yellow could encompass a whole bunch of ideas.

It looks like the same yet different theme has the most support...but I don't see why we need to take a before and after....

In fact if the angle or the way it is shot is way unusual, it might be fun NOT to see what the object actually is and might provide for some good guessing in some shots. (Not that that should be the goal; but it might be a fun byproduct in some shots)

soooo...what do we think? same yet different with one shot or two?

So go to a bar and take a shot of one drunk and one not?

If I understand it correctly there's two ways to do this:
1. take a standard photo of something, then another to show it from a different perspective.
2. take a photo of something mundane but from a weird or unusual angle

so what if we simplified the idea to 'A Different Point of View'? The photo has to show a different perspective on something.

If I understood the original idea it goes something like this:

I guess, I am a little bit late. But "same/different" would work for me - as well would "opposites".

Ok...when I made the suggestion, Here's the idea that was in my head and why I thought of it.

So my idea was that we take a standard photo that we would normally take of something in the traditional stance of standing up and shooting. Then we would change the perspective of the same image by changing positions.
We would post both images to see what moving around/changing your position changes the photography. I thought it might be kinda fun to post examples of our experiments...both before and after.
It is something I do often and I thought it might get others to think in different ways on how they view a scene.

My example is Millenium tower.

One position I took was here:


The other position of the very same building but in BW


Notice how changing the perspective changes the image.
That was my thought but feel free to change it if you like.

You could also do one shot in the day - one shot in the night....whatever as long as it is the same image but different in some way.
Does that make any sense?

THIS is exactly what i had in mind. Just showing 1 photo of an object from a different or uncommon angle. Different lenses could also be used to exaggerate the effect.

So as an example, someone could shoot a carton of eggs really close up, that's a different angle/perspective.

Or someone could shoot a portrait but shooting up from ground level.

Basically the way you normally see an object.....AVOID THAT. Shoot it differently....up to you but I see loads of creative possibilities here.

If people are okay with this....please post and if you prefer any of the other ways described in this thread, let me know.....I'd like to make it "official" today.

A Different Point of View works for me if the poster would like they can also post the standard view so we can see the difference.

Ok members the suggestion posts have been merged and the theme is Different point of view. This means shooting your subject in a different way from the way the subject is normally shot.

here's some examples:
Someone could shoot a carton of eggs really close up, that's a different angle/perspective.

Or someone could shoot a portrait but shooting up from ground level.

Basically the way you normally see an object.....AVOID THAT. Shoot it differently.

My friend was on top of the motorhome at the race when I looked up and thought, this shot might come in handy for something. Viola, different point of view.

OOPS, I goofed. Being a novice sucks. This is an assignment, therefore I'm suppose to shoot something, not bring one out from the past. Sorry.
