Blurred waves, an attempt

I went to take shots of the waves created by tropical storm Kyle. While I was there, I thought I would try to blur the action. When I left the house, the sky was perfect for shooting, lots of cloud cover but not enough to make it too dark. When I got to the location, the sun came out bright and harsh. It was mentioned in another thread about the blur water so I thought that I would post these. The rocks are out of focus. I had the tripod sitting on rocks. I don't have a remote and I didn't use the self timer because with my lock I would get lots of shots of the waves rolling out and not in.

Shot 3 is my fave here baddness. I think in general these shots would have been stronger had you focused on the rocks and let the waves blur. Some of the shots could also use a boost in contrast....and there is a strong blue cast that can be reduced somewhat.

one last thing...your sensor is dirty. I can see the same dirt from frame to frame.

I know it's done with waterfalls and it's probably over done so I just thought that I would try it with the strong waves from Kyle. It was blowing pretty hard to as well as the sun being so harsh. I am very inexperienced when it comes to post processing. Yeah I should have cloned out the dust before posting though

Nice images, agree with Marko's comments, however: Clean your sensor, don't just clone the dust out!

Yeah I know that I have to clean the sensor. I went to the local camera shop which happens to be in a drug store. I asked for a sensor cleaning kit and the guy thought that I meant a denture cleaning kit. Boy what a conversation that was lol. They don't sell them. He recommended that I send my camera to Canon to get it done. Can't go without it. My camera has the self cleaning sensor but that dust is stubborn and don't want to come off. I'm more comfortable cloning the dust. I really don't want to touch the sensor.

How on earth did you guys see that???? WOW! That is the kind of eye I want/need to develop! Reading these, I(we) have learned so much!!! Now all I (we) need to do is put it to practice.


Baddness.... When I first saw your images - before reading the cc, iI thought they were really cool. To an eye that is a work in progress, I still think they are awesome! I like the composition, the color is a bit on the blue side... the third image is my fave as well...

The blue cast looks like a white balance issue... try playing with the white balance slider in whatever editor you use... otherwise cool shots....

regarding your sensor - try one of these - you don't really need a "kit"

I have the new variation with adjustable tip. Just make sure your camera is facing down when blowing.
