Default Need Help Identifying a Photographer from limited clues!

I saw the work of a photographer this summer on either BoingBoing, Neatorama or NYT.com. I saved the link using a url-shortening site(.tk) and the link is now dead :( I've done extensive searches but have not been able to find the site again.

The photographs were startlingly about color. They were portraits, I think they were squarish, and I think the photographer was a Japanese male. The images were of Asian men (possibly Japanese) dressed in elaborate makeup and wigs, almost like geishas. In one photo the background is black, the hair, skin, everything is pitch black except for bright yellow lipstick on the model. In others, everything in the portrait is white. Selective color plays a huge role in these photos and the expressive use of color is very striking. His work is very much Art photography and he was featured as such.

I know it's probably not a lot to go on, and I can't find it myself. But if anyone has any idea who this photographer is, I'd be thrilled and grateful to know.

    Thank you!!!

Sorry I can't help you with the name of the photographer, but if they were Japanese, it sounds as though you're describing photos of male Kabuki performers. Hopefully, this helps you narrow your search. Good luck!

I think 1putts is probably bang on with the Kabuki reference. I'm not sure I can help you identify the photographer either, however, you might be able to do it yourself.

Those URL shorteners are a basic redirection engine. It redirects you to a longer URL. That longer URL may still be in your history if you've been to the site within a reasonable time frame.

Try popping open your history and doing a search there. On Internet Explorer click the Favorites button and pick the History tab then start searching...
