I would like to help you out but you didn't vote in the poll, lol anyway it is both actually, the better way is with the hardware version. I will give you a link that I think explains it all very well. If not just come back and ask. It is a method to get your computer showing real world colours for printing and or other colour sensitive tasks where you need your monitor calibrated to give you true colour representation. Or maybe someone will explain it differently. Anyway here is the link
