Default Publicphotography.org - A celebration focusing on photographers' rights

This idea comes from Casil in reply to a post I did. This would take several months to set up but since it is the beginning of June I would search for a weekend day that I hope would have some photographic importance in the end of August to say the beginning of October. If anyone is interested lets see if we can get this idea off the ground. The idea is to put a positive spin on photography and photographers. We should try and hold it in as many places as possible and if we get enough interest I will help and inform people how to get word out, how to organize your town or cities event and whatever other info or help I can provide. I have experience in organizing protests and this will be a positive event so it should be fairly easy to get off the ground. So if anyone is interested let me know here or in PM. We can come up with a catchy name and see about getting some corporate interest and media interest. If Marko was interested we could use his site to promote the event. Anyway we will see if the interest is there. I hope so. So will we have a Shoot In?

"Shoot In" doesn't seem catch phrasey enough but I'm in. It would be nice if we associated it with the "Photography is Not a Crime" site as well since that movement has a lot of people. I'll push it around Halifax, Nova Scotia if we can get a plan together.

I could not be any more IN. Al...feel free to run with the idea however you think is best...you have the experience and I can help out in any way you wish. For me it was just an idea and I am so glad you like the thought and are willing to run with it. I am willing to do what it takes to get the Calgary contingent in.
I would like to see this organized in Britain and the States as well as they have far greater issues with photography. Maybe we just start in Canada and see if it catches on....
As for a day...how about a famous (or infamous) street or journalistic photographer's birthday?
Anybody who belongs to any clubs, groups, forums...lets start getting the idea out there...start threads and get people talking!
We can start a group on flickr too.

    Another Idea for a date:

Henri Cartier-Bressons birthday is August 22 which this year falls on a Sunday.

I like Public Exposure and Henri Cartier-Bressons birthday would be a perfect day to do it on. Well we have Calgary, Toronto, Halifax onboard so far lets try over the weekend when members stop by if we can get others to join in. It would be "Public Exposure" held on Henri's birthday. I think it should be a go, lets get try and get other members to get involved. Give it the weekend and lets see how many photography.ca members want to be involved and we then can put the whole idea together. I will write Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc. and see if any of them would be interested in becoming involved. I would also write the National Post, Globe and Mail for national exposure and members can write to their local papers to inform them of the event. We can throw out ideas of the next few days and when we have a game plan hopefully by Monday and then put it into play and fine tune it over the next week or two. If members from other countries or cities from the globe want to participate they can, it need not be just a Canuck event but we can start here and see if it carries on to other places. I do not have a Facebook account but I can use my wife's account so if someone familiar with facebook can start a fan page and we can promote it through there also. After I post this I want to look into a few things and will post back if what I want to do is possible.

Sorry my funny bone just kicked in as I am visualizing hordes of happy shooters going to the streets in trench coast carrying Leicas. Well as long as I don't have to flash I am up for it as well.
If you like my images I am very happy but please don’t nominate them.
