First off - welcome to the forum!
My first instinct is, it's the sync wire...but you are not providing precise enough detail.
Ok on to the question - exactly HOW are you connecting the camera to the flash system?
Which EXACT lighting kit are you using - brand name, model number etc.and how old is it (new or ancient)

It's an Aiki photo setup with 2 S-45M (also called E26) infrared slave lights. It's brand new. Thanks so much for your help!

I'd like to help but I'm not familiar with these lights. I'd bet the answer is simple but there's too many possible things to just go hunting.
maybe if you could describe how these things are connected...basically we need more to go on....but sounds like a sync thing...maybe the channels on the slaves...are there channels? Have you made 100% sure that the product is compatible with your canon?

No I haven't. I'm not married to this Aikiphoto stuff either. Do you know a good place to get lighting? I'm in Edmonton. I tried McBain Photo and a couple other places. What's good for Canon?

Since you're having problems you'd need to check for compatibility for the Aiki stuff first before moving on to other possibilities.Originally Posted by pogueca

Ok. I finally figured out the problem! My unit has a little something called a preflash. What this did was set the flash off before I wanted it to. I set the flash to manual and then the camera and adjusted accordingly. Thanks for all your help and suggestions I hope this post helps someone in the future. I will definately check back if here in the future for some tips!
