    Default Hailz!

Decided to sign on after only listening to one podcast - number 61 – What makes a Photo Great. I have been busy photographing since I got my D90 in Spring 2009. If you go to my deviantart page and look through my gallery, you may notice a slight improvement since then. While I have a full time job, I take whatever chance I can to shoot. Last year, I had the opportunity to photograph my friends, The Rogues, in Las Vegas. 13 GB of images and got a decent percentage of good ones. They even used six of my images for their new CD and have taken to calling me "their photographer". Kinda cool.

But, I'm nowhere near pro-level, more a serious enthusiast, so I seek out whatever I can to edge me closer to being a respectable photographer. While I do try to get as best I can first shot out of a camera, I still can't resist post-prod to really get the image I want. Without, of course, manipulating something out of recognition.

So, I'm here to learn and share. I'll let you know right off the bat, though, I can be candid. Always assume positive intent with me, however.

    Cheers!

Welcome to the forum, Gremlich. Can't wait to see more of your work. The first shot looks very nice.

Indeed, I have no intentions to create antibodies for myself. ;-)

As for other details, I have D90 with the kit 18-105mm lens that I purchased in Spring 2009. I also have a 35mm Nikkor f/1.8, a 70-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Sigma, and 2 SB-600s. I still have my Nikon FM 35mm with a 50mm f/1.4 that I purchased in 1978 for $400 - my entire month's paycheck at the time, and a Vivitar 283 flash. With that kit, I also have a 135mm Macro and a 28mm f/2.8. For miscellaneous, I have a manfrotto tripod and monopod (matching ball heads), 2 gorillapod dSLR (for the flashes). I use LR3 with the Silver Efex Pro plug-in (getting SEP 2 soon!) and tend to only use PS for the odd thing, like putting another image of The Rogues onto a background billboard in Las Vegas last year. (I think that if I was smarter than PS, I'd use it more.)

This is only good for 12 February 2011. The Irish Pub chain "Ri Ra" has one of my images displayed for my friends, "The Rogues", who will be playing at the Bethesda, Maryland, location this evening. You can't blow the image up, but a larger version is shown below:

    Name: roadsidegp1-133.jpg
Views: 192
Size: 94.1 KB

They are, l to r: Corey (Canadian), Doug (Canadian), Nelson (Canadian), Randy (US), and Lyric (US). Nelson channels Elvis sometimes.

It's a Band shot, not fine art, but seeing my images in a "Commercial way" is gratifying all the same. I have better treatments of them on my deviantart and flickr sites. They really enjoy my B&W images.
