    Default Rectangular objects

You would be amazed at the distance that a rectangular object rolls. In fact, I've watched a rectangular object roll enough of a distance to fall off a dock and into a lake.

But that's not a problem, it's an opportunity to try something new. I've taken this opportunity to graduate from point & shoot to DSLR. And thanks to a starving student I picked up a used Nikon D50 and a 50mm/1.8 lens in great condition for a great price.

I'm having a great time exercising my imagination and learning new things. I'm expanding my range of subjects from birthday parties & vacations to include landscape, street scenes, and even a little macro.

I've been reading a lot of forums and listening to a lot of podcasts on photography as a hobby or profession. The quality of most of these is generally pretty high to begin with. But photography.ca is the best I've discovered so far. The forum members are varied, active, receptive, and helpful. And Marko's podcast is insightful and interesting.

Welcome to the forum, Matisse. I am truly sorry to hear about your rolling rectangular object, however, I hope that it is a cloud with a silver lining since you've managed to graduate to a DSLR. Warning: they can roll too so hold on tight!

That 50mm f1.8 is a wonderful lens. You're starting off with some great gear and I'm sure you'll do well. Can't wait to see some of your images.
