October 2011 - Window Light

The level 2 assignment this month is window light. Shoot anything (portrait, pet, object) by window light.

Although this may sound too easy for a level 2 assignment, it is not....if you make sure all elements (contrast, focus, sharpness, exposure) in the photo are working with the window light.

Ok then who will post first?

Good start, theantiquer.

Cin Cin on her playstand in the kitchen. She is faced towards a north facing window with the light falling on her. I am standing next to the window.
Lens wide open at 1/60 of a second and 400 ISO. Because of the busy enviroment and just because I wanted to, there is a blur vignette added. She has a few pins on her head.

After reading the assignment again I feel I should remove this. I was trying to be a bit creative when I took it. But considering a third of the image is a blown out highlight and another third is black etc., I don't think it represents your explanation of the assignment as a challenge to achieve good exposure etc with window light. But I guess I'll just acknowledge that and leave it.

I think you should leave it here. Good/Proper exposure can be a bit subjective. The bright blown area pointing down to the sleeping child (and mom?) is pretty cool and since the window is providing the main source of light I think it qualifies to be in the challenge.
