Default I had the rare chance to get a sideline pass of a college football game (photo heavy)

Just lucked up, someone I only met once, contacted me to see if I wanted an extra sideline pass to Tulane vs Duke University football game. I felt a little inadequate with my 70-200 2.8 while standing next to four photographers (one from AP, one from USA Today, one from Getty Images, & one from the local paper). All four of these guys shooting with 100-400 2.8 lenses, etc, top of the line cameras ($50,000 in equipment).

It was MUCH harder than I imagined. With just a 70-200, I had to make sure I was in the right position, etc.

Here are a few I have processed so far, MANY cropped way in, and major noise reduction.

    what a great opportunity At!

Nice varied set - My fave here is post 1 shot 4.

By coincidence I just listened to a radio show talking about early college football.
Apparently forward passing only became part of the game in 1907 or so - and it was the beauty of the spiral that gave this tough game an aire of elegance - and changed it forever - making it more appealing to more people. (maybe that's why the spiral shot is my fave).

Thanks Marko, but hate to tell you, that is a punt, not a pass. Technically that is my best image of the night. No cropping and very little PP.

I am jealous. What a great opportunity (and wonderful experience).

I think most of those guys would have a wide aperture 400mm lens for that situation

You have some nice shots there, and agree post1 shot 4. I also really like your shots of the crowd, cheerleaders and mascot

Very cool. Shooting sports can be lots of fun and very challenging.... looks like you did well.
