Default August 2012 Photography assignment - Portraits

Anyone have a regular assignment suggestion for this month?

    - I'll throw one out. Portraits. Feel free to support that idea or suggest another - no worries.

I believe for this month's level 2 assignment we were going to take 10 consecutive images with NO PP. (Can't find the thread we discussed this in though)

I like portraits. I might actually do a few!

Also, yes, the 2nd level assignment was based on this conversation: http://www.photography.ca/Forums/f3/...ise-18451.html

    Something like this:

Oooh, I like that idea of a level 2 challenge... we could pick any say 5 day period or 3 day period within the 31 days of August and take 12 shots. Then you have to post all 12 shots.

    - No editing (including cropping)
    - JPG only (no RAW)
    - B&W's must be done in-camera
    - 12 successive shots

I'm cool with that Iggy - except for one thing......the cropping.

Uncropped images will be too wide and will get compressed by forum software. (unless I'm missing something)

So I suggest cropping and save for web are the only things that should be done.

    Make sense? Thx!

Resizing for the web is OK but the idea is to fill the frame and only include that which you want to include in the image. When I say, no cropping, I mean don't cut up the frame after you take the shot. In other words, all the images will be of the 4x6 format. You won't find any 8x10's or 16x9 or 1:1 ratio images. Am I making any sense?

    we agree to agree

I like the Level 2 assignment but the time frame should not matter. If it takes someone 20 days to get all the shots, so be be it. This could almost be a level 3 assignment and have it for 2 months. This will make use take our time in shooting the 10 images and not feel rushed because "I only have four and only 3 days left".

For level 1, I offer the suggestion of "iron".

The reason I say a level 3 for the 10 images, for those of us with only one camera, I will have to do level 1 and than level 2 (3), unless I use one of my 10 images as my level 1 image.

That's why I suggested a short time frame. Challenge yourself for a day or two to shoot with those restrictions and then go back to what you normally do. They all don't have to be perfect. The idea behind the challenge is to help you concentrate more on individual images rather than the "spray and pray" method.

Interesting AT, I'm guessing the reason Iggy suggested 3 or 5 day is exactly because we don't want to tie up our cameras all month if we only have 1 camera.

But I'm okay with you taking as much time as you want. The photos should be consecutive though, that's part of it.
I think I'd like to make this 10 images though. This should be way interesting.

Regular assignment this month will be portraits.

merging suggestion posts now. Thx all!
