Nick DeWolf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you are a flickr member like myself you may have stumbled upon The Nick de Wolf archive. He was a keen and prolific amateur photographer and his son-in-law Steve Lundene has been scanning and posting his photos since 2005. They are fascinating as as documentation of an era and especially of his social group. Whenever I get the urge to voyeur on another era I browse through the latest postings of his seemingly endless collection.

If I'm being honest....the work is interesting because it captures times and eras...
But a random flip through some flickr pages suggests to me in my humblest opinion that the vast majority of this work should have been edited out.
When i shot BW film, just like digital there were the keepers and then there was the rest...this guy posted the whole roll. A bad pic from 1970 is still a bad pic even if the character it captured was the coolest hippie ever.

I pretty much agree with what you say, Marko. The archivist is posting everything without censoring anything and I suppose that is what archiving is, still I find it fascinating because there are so damned many of them and they certainly record an era. Honestly, if they were my photos they probably would not have survived into the 2000's. It's just a little guilty pleasure of mine to look at them, but I also love looking at the Library of Congress photos as well. (They are mostly better rendered)
