I went and found a nice one just for you, MA. One of Idaho's nicknames is the Gem State. There are mining operations for a variety of gems and for gold and silver, plus a certain amount of amateur panning and rock hounding. I think it also means there's a wider variety of pretty but not necessarily valuable rocks.
