Night visitor

so when I came to the marsh yesterday morning I heard coyotes in the distance; yipping and singing and sounding like they were having a good time. When the sun crested I was very excited to find these -



obviously quite fresh since just days before we had howling winds. The shot wouldn't be half so special without that one recognizable print. sweet.

so where was our gal off to? why the beaver lodge of course.



while in the neighborhood, might as well see if there's one around. I bet they just laughed though, down in their warm den.

Neat! Love the light here...looks like she broke thru the snow a few times. Must've been a bit of a tough walk.

they could have been Bambi, I didn't dare go look. Maybe next month if it stays below freezing.
I fell through the ice of the brook on the hike back to the car. no harm done and after my yelp of surprise I laughed and laughed. Tough to tell where the land ends and the ice sheets begin under all that snow. ;D

That's what bothers me about walking around Canada alone

The coyotes don't worry me ... should they??

Falling through the ice and drowning my camera is my main worry.

For the most part, no, coyotes shouldn't worry you.
the ice thing is something you should be cautious with, but not afraid of. that's why on this shoot I didn't go out far - that mist was probably a result of very thin ice. But I didn't hear any cracking or groaning where I was and the ice wasn't mushy. Last year I shot a sunset on a frozen lake in mid January. I was nervous, but there were snowmobile and snowshoe tracks all over, so I don't think I was in any danger. the brook I fell through to was shallow as was the river I put a foot into last year. It's just part of the deal when you do winter shooting. Use your head, but don't be so cautious as to miss the good stuff.
