Default In the wake of fire

Over the last couple of months, throughout Australia we have been having unprecedented bush-fires .

In the Adelaide Hills (approx 20 minutes from my home) we had fires blazing up until just before Christmas Day. Although the fires continue in the Eastern states, and on Kangaroo Island (a couple of hundred kilometers from me), the fires in my immediate vicinity have been put out.

Today I went for drive through the areas affected. It is amazing that the eucalyptus leaves have turned golden after being burnt, and when using a polarising filter give an amazing contrast against the blue sky. It almost looks like infrared colour photography.

wow, stunning, but horrible photos. i'm glad you're all right.

the photos of just the eucalyptus trees and sky almost look like they're IR photos. there's beauty found in devastation.

Thanks for posting these RM...I'm speechless with regard to the devastation but glad that it's over in your neck of the woods.

It's cool you had the impulse to record the devastation. These serve as reminders of the powerful forces of nature and mankind's ignorance and denial. It sounds like the impact will last for a good long time. Definitely glad you are moving past it. Take care.

Thanks guys for your kind comments and best wishes.

The fires have been devastating, with stories of the tragedy and heartbreak at the loss of life and property, the dedication and heroism of the volunteer firefighters and some amazing lucky escapes.
