Exif data is data that is saved with the photo file. It includes stuff like the model of camera, lens used, time the shot was taken and date, the settings such as f-stop, shutter speed and also the focal length (18mm, 50mm, 400mm etc).
When you save the file as a jpg with a program that retails this data it allows us to see this information when viewing it in websites such as Flickr. When using Firefox browser, we can use an addon that allows us to right click and view this data also.
This exif data is lost when combining several files so HDR does not retain the data. However, single photos do.

    Does that help?

Is this helpful? I don't wish to wear my differentness like a badge, but the help I've had on the internet has frequently been to use layers and this tool or that tool. One suggestion with some flare was to dodge, or is it that burn, it out, whereas all I could think was that I should have had the hood on and next time, hopefully, I'll do better. I want to get it right in the camera. Sorry if I rained on anyone's parade, that was not my intention, Kurt

When you put a photo up in the critiques section people will often look at post processing ways to make it better as well as ways to take it better in the first place.
If you prefer to hear people's opinions on how you should have taken the photo in the first place and not get the post processing advice then I guess ask for that when you post the photo. We are all happy to offer what we think, especially when we know exactly what advice you are looking for.

I actually get it why people do that. I don't think it has something to do with being elitist. I think many people (well, at least me) wear they camera with pride. Not because I think it makes be better in any way, but because I've worked hard for it. I've studied it to master every setting and button. But most of all, because it is mine. I know there are better camera's out there, but this one happened to be bought by me. It's like your first car, you know it's a piece of ****, but you still love it. Because it is yours. You own it.
So I don't mind putting my gear in my signature. I usually have something silly in there, but if it helps to put my stuff in there, I will happily oblidge.

And I have the deepest respect for people who can make the most beautiful pictures with a 50 euro camera...
Listen, three eyes, don't you try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

I think the opinions here show we don't need to add the camera gear to the sigs. But I think it may help in some cases if we add what gear we used when asking for a critique.
