Default Winner Chosen - June 2009 - Admin's choice - Image of the month

    Hi members,

In case you are new around here this is where the Admin (me) chooses one excellent photo each month from the Show forum, the critique forum and the assignment forum to talk about and suggest why it is good as a learning tool.

I have spent several hours going through every single thread from June 2009 from the Show forums, the assignment forums and the critique forum....and it's getting harder and harder to choose one image. Also it's really hard to choose 1 image from many totally different genres.

This month the winner is Mad Aussie's image from his series Fly with me ... across Australia

I chose this image because it works on many levels. I like how there are nice elements in the foreground, midground and background. The sky here looks excellent as do the tones in general. I love how the rocks in the background seem to blend in with the sky. I like how this HDR image is very strong but not overdone. I dig the overall sharpness here. I also like how the main focal point (the largest rock at right) pulls me right in and yet there are plenty of other things that intrigue my eye. For all these reasons, this is my choice for image of the month.

Since we all have opinions, some members may disagree with my choice. That's cool but THIS thread is not the place for debate over my pick, NOR is it the place to further critique the image. The purpose here is to suggest strong elements in the photo that we may learn from.

Congrats again Mad Aussie for creating this beautiful image!

Photography is more than just taking a picture and freezing the action, or leaving the shutter open. It is more than orchestrating the image with the stroke of a brush. Its the realization and explanation that reality is an isolated experience in which only a specific individual can comprehend during any given time period. - Your Truly!

Thank you everybody and thanks Marko for the accolades here.

Sorry I took so long to answer. I've been rather busy over the past month or so and photography has had to take a back seat somewhat. I only learned of this 'win' from a comment Casil made today.

It's amazing how different photos appeal to different people. This photo is far from my favourite in my Fly With Me series although I do like it and others not from ph.ca do also.
It's cool hearing what exactly appeals about a shot too, thanks again Marko for that.
