    Default Hospitality

Welcome to my underground lair. Well not really. Still this crab spider has constructed quite a little blind on this black eyed susan and is very good at taking down tiny bees as they go about their unwary way. Shot with the OM 90mm f2 macro at about f4.

Cool capture, Wicked! Love the colour of the spider, he is well camouflaged no doubt.

thanks much. As far as I know crab spiders come in pale pink or yellow depending on habitat. They're quick as lightning and excellent hunters.

Very cool. Now, did he close up the petals like that or is it coincidence. Either way, you must have eagle eyes to spot him crawling around there.

    thanks all.
She made that. She grabs the petals and holds them and then throws lines of silk around them. She had one on several flowers in her vacinity. I wish I could have watched her do it, but she seemed to make them when it is dark because I'd go out every day and there'd be more. If you look closely you can see strands of silk in the photo. It's pretty cool.

Too bad you are not a biology teacher. With such visual aid students would remember for sure the important things about surrounding living creatures. Very interesting image.

thanks guys. A teacher...hm...never thought of that. I do love nature though and it fascinates me when I find some unexpected behavior. And yeah, the tiny bees were getting it in the face...her little territory was littered with corpses.
