Fox

This is a discussion on Fox within the Animals (mammals, birds, insects etc.) forums, part of the Show your photo (Color) - Landscape & Nature (flowers, mountains, storms etc.) category; I can't believe I got this close to the fox before it ran into the woods....

It's the small depth of field. If you look close at the eyes they are in focus.

Maybe it lost something in uploading because that's not evident on my monitor I'm afraid.

I agree it doesn't look quite right when I look at it in the forum posting. It is much better when I look at it in Lightroom. I think also part of the problem is that it was late in the day at dusk and I had to crank up the ISO to 1600. When I zoom in in Lightroom I can see that the eyes are in focus but they are noisey. I may have to play a little bit more with the noise reduction and sharpening to get a better balance.

Wow ... 1600 ISO and a result that good ... I can only dream!

File size here can be an issue ... if it's over 250 kb the forum reduces quality to reduce file size and the most obvious result is the sharpness gets the chop. Larger photos (up to about 800 pixels) with a smaller file size work very well here.

    Default Fox

I have been tracking a family of fox in the Bearspaw are near Calgary for a month with opportunity for a shot. When I was a kid the local game officer live trapped one. The eyes (pupils on a fox are diamond shaped) I can see that in your photo. I like it.

    Happy Shooting

It's definitely a wonderful little creature you've captured fairly well here. Was the original you uploaded larger than 250KB? The board may have mangled it a bit on upload if it was which would make it a little fuzzy. Try exporting to JPG with different settings until you get an image which is just under 250KB.
